Negative Performance Feedback

I recently finished my performance feedback for the people I managed in time for the final evaluation of salary increase and promotions this fiscal year.

I am pleased to say that five of the people I gave feedbacks had excellent ratings that would assure the highest increase possible for them.

Bill Gates, dreams do come true…

In 9 hours and 7 minutes I will live my dreams and see Bill Gates in person.

For someone who cannot afford one complete meal a day, only had two pair of pants and two polo shirts in 4 years in college (so worn out by the time I graduated), walked 4 kilometers to get to school because a transportation of P 1.50 (.041 cents) was too much; these things happening to me in my career is unbelievable.

Heads-up, I was chosen by my company (Accenture Avanade) of more 7,000 employees (in Manila only) to use the only seat given to Manila Center to attend the Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2006 where Bill Gates is delivering the opening key note and facilitate the question and answer session after. One of the youngest and newest employee of the company at 27 years old, I lead the Subject Matter Experts in Collaboration (SharePoint, Project, Office, CMS, VSTS, ACA Portal) of the Philippines.

It took me all my strenght turning nights into days to work my way out of poverty and get to where I am right now.

What are my Philosophies?

Work with all your might and believe with all your heart
Dream do come true
Impossible Is Nothing
Become Second to None
Bill Gates’ Philosophies :)
... more to come

Was It Easy?

Hell No!

Anyways, I will be updating you and continue working on this blog to share my insights and beliefs on how to get out of povery and be the best you can be to reach your goals and ambitions in life.

For now, I will focus all my energies until May 19 to live my dreams and work with the best people in the world.

I shall return…

When I’m 60 I slept for 20 years

One day I heard a trivia on radio discussing how many hours you spend on sleeping each day and multiply that for the next ten years.

I suddenly became curious and began my own calculations. If I sleep 8 hours a day starting at the age of 10 until the age of 50 that would be 40 (yrs) x 1/3 (day) = 13.33 years. Whoaah! That’s a lot of sleep.

Let’s try to extend this more. Let’s say we spend 2 hours for both lunch and dinner, 1.5 hours for both breakfast and 3 snacks a day then that would be 3.5 hours for eating.

How about transportation? Let’s put 2 hours for the entire travel we make in a day.

How about allotting 3 hours for personal hygiene, chat with officemates and other unproductive disturbances throughout the day?

To sum it up:

Sleeping—8 hours
Eating—3.5 hours
Traveling—2 hours
Other things—3 hours
————————————-

Total: 16.5 hours

Now by using our previous formula of 40 yrs x hours/24 we have spent 27.5 years by the age of 50 on sleeping, eating, traveling and other non-high productive activities.

Geesh, that’s ridiculous. Wait, didn’t I start my calculations at the age of ten? How many hours of sleep and play did we actually spend by the time we reached that age? Oh man, do the math.

Oh, didn’t the title say 60 years and 20 sleeping years? Just do the math again!

Get off your Desk and Get a Life

I recently had a conversation with an old friend telling me to stop spending too much time in front of my computer and get a life. I told him this is my life. This is my passion.

I wonder why a lot of people see work as work. A place to earn money. That’s it. Is it because they never enjoy what their doing? Is it because they are not in the right career? Or simply they don’t have passion for it at all.

I am not one of those people who time and watch the hand of their clock close in at 5:30 in the afternoon. Who await the final bell as if they are now going out of misery. A place of hell left.

I totally enjoy what I am doing and thankful that I am getting paid for doing something I love and passionate about. I don’t see work as work but rather a time of deep satisfaction. Yes, there are times that I feel work sucks. But think again, everything no matter how beautiful they may seem become a suck at one point in time.

But overall on the longevity of what I feel towards what I do; I would definitely say I am so happy.

4 Untouchable Hours

I was involved in a project that required me to function as both a team lead and at the same time given modules that of a programmer to accomplish.

It seemed very easy during the start of the project. But later on I realized the amount of modules given to me was bigger than anyone’s’ module and had to be accomplished half of the project timeline since it was supposed to be implemented across all modules. Furthermore, I could only spend half of my daily time since I had a lot of other tasks as a team lead.

Evade and Survive

Never let anyone push you around.
So my advice to you is simply this: Never let anyone push you around. First, try to defuse the situation. If you can’t do that, stand up and defend yourself.—Bob Parsons

Courage is a special kind of knowledge. It’s knowing how to fear what ought to be feared and how not to fear what ought not to be feared.—David Ben Gurion

Since I was a kid I was the kind of person taught to fight for what I felt was right.

I could still remember the day I was in preparatory grade when I was around 6 years old when a bunch of guys beat me up. The reason for their actions was my refusal to sit in front of the school bus rather than at the back where I already sat. It had been their bully’s rule that the younger ones were supposed to sit at the front while the senior ones were at the back. I really did not care about the bully rule since I was the first one who arrived at the bus and wanted to have a good elevated view by sitting at the back. This prompted them to confront me which ended up in a fight. Four 12 year old kids pushed me and tried to beat me up.
