about Milo

My full name is Miguel Paulo G. Riano and everyone calls me by my nickname Milo. I am 27 years old with a B.S. degree in Information Technology from San Beda College in the Philippines. Currently I am working as a technical team lead, head of the Collaboration Subject Matter Experts capability stack, and a capability mentor in Manila center at one of the top three biggest technology, consulting services firm in the world.

Competitiveness

I am a highly competitive individual who grew professionally idolizing Bill Gates, reading every book, news, material and anything I could get hold about Microsoft and Bill starting at high school. A few years after, I started reading about Jack Welch, the legendary CEO of General Electric who led the company into becoming the most valued business in the world. Other leaders I admire and have studied throughout these years include Larry Ellison, Michael Dell, Lou Gertsner and Plattini. Modern day leaders have also caught my attention from Sergey Brin, Larry Page, etc.

Purpose of this blog

I write this blog to put forward my thoughts, experiences, knowledge, etc together with my journey as I work on becoming a CEO of a Multinational billion dollar technology company and succeed either in the style of Bill or Jack.

Professional journey

Career Thruster

I graduated in year 2000 and just around six years I already experienced the growing pains of finding my professional identity in the corporate world with my first job at Coca-Cola Bottlers of the Philippines Inc. My most valued professional growth came from my experience at SGV & Co. (Arthur Andersen then Ernst & Young member firm) which gave me the training, projects, skills and exposure which built my confidence and work ethic to enable me to become successful. The discipline, knowledge and mentality I gained from SGV & Co. remains invaluable for decades to come.

The Business Knowledge

After that I transferred to Business Process Outsourcing International which thought me a tremendous amount of knowledge on business processes across all departments in an organization. My understanding an appreciation on different processes would never be the same without my BPO experience.

Career Low Point

The lowest point of my career is when I joined Golden ABC, Inc. which is a retail fashion company in the Philippines carrying brands Penshoppe, Memo, Oxygen and ForMe. There are times that I could not help but regret my decision of accepting their job offer; but on the other hand, it gave me the experience to differentiate ideas, philosophies, etc. between world class companies against a business struggling to win in a local setting.

Major Career Development

I am very happy working in a company with 170k++ employees. We now rank number 1 in the world -- in the industry we are competiting on. Playing a key role in the Philippine delivery center which has around 10k employees and growing rapidly every month, taught me great things on how to become successful in the big league.

Wish list

I hope you can all be part of my journey either as a reader, commenter, contributor, friend, or as a bystander also hoping to succeed both professionally and personally. I’ll give my best to inspire and teach you in any way that I can and hope we can all help in making this planet a better place to live in.
